The original had some composition problems so I fixed them.

Reference source for my pumpkins anyways: Enchantedgal_Stock from DeviantART

This was the first complete painting I did on MAC using an Intous 4. I bet the colours will look all screwed up when I take a look at it on my PC again. I am feeling someway insecure now - which monitor is more to trust? Does the the painting have beautiful bright colours when you guys look at it? *scratches head*. :/
I worked all night on this and then, today I was told that this wasn't necessary because whole class was slow and so we all got more time. I am so tired, grr!

Prof says: "Well then you can be proud that you've worked professional, while the others didn't. So you have learned something for yourself."

I say: "Who cares for a simulation of working professional? They all got some sleep and I didn't. Gnaa!"

(This painting was made for a fictional advertising campaign that I will not publish here.)

Please be so kind to spare any nasty comments. I got enough trouble working on this on a amazingly small time schedule anyways. (And no sleep, this is enough punishment for a person like me -___-)

Inspried by fashion shots, Swarovski, some work from Katanaz_Stock and objekt_stock.

PS: Placing the damn jewels took me forever. Not to speak about the wallpaper. Raa! XD

Ruined

Once upon a time, there lived a young and beautiful princess.
Rich as she was she lived in a wonderful castle, where she had all kinds of treasures to call her own. Sadly she did not understand that the human heart cannot be bought with jewelry, so she caught a mermaid and told her to turn her tears into magic stones if she ever wanted to be free again. With those she would lure young men into the mountains which center was her castle. But since none of them truly loved her, they all turned into stone themselves, and so the mountains grew bigger and bigger so that one day she would never see the sun again. In this rich but sad world of loneliness and the desire of death her only friend would be her toad.

Okay so much about my try to write a kitsch story. XD

The title comes not just from the poverty of loneliness but also because I thought I had screwed the whole painting as I was half through. But then I luckily got it on again and here it is finally finished after three months of work.

The original idea came from my art direction class which held the following subject to deal with in photography: Full body subject with chair shown during every day work. It can be documentary or fictional. When you plan to use this as inspirational topic, show me your results!
Remember since this is art direction the character surroundings like wallpaper and furniture are very important so don't leave them aside.

Working on this painting was such enormous work that I shot some reference photos, but this wasn't enough, so speaking of art direction, I have to do it like the Oscar's now, because there are many amazing people around here who make it possible to give inspiration for such an enormous piece of art.

I wanna thank adiastock, objekt_stock, shnarfle_stock, crumpstock, Iardacil_stock, Companda_Stock, LunaNYXstock, taho_stock, angelcurioso, FantasyStock, midnightstouchSTOCK for being such a great inspiration for all of us. For sharing their work, and for doing wonderful art direction on their figure shots aswell. Without your inspirations and references I would have never been able to finish this piece of art direction, so I have added you all to the keywords, too.
Please recognize that not everyone I mentioned here was used for reference. A lot of them are inspirations, but an inspiration is as important as everything else for the creation process of a painting, and many people forget to mention that!

Other than that, thanks go to HuiLin85 who waited so patently for this painting. I neglected to paint her for money because of her back story. So instead she became my inspiration for this character.
Girl, I hope you will love it!

Cherry

Some notes for this artwork:

- This artwork was done for my boyfriend as christmas present who had certain wishes what he wanted to have and so I finally designed something for him which resulted into a 60's pinup/ art nouveau style combination.

- The artwork symbolizes tastyness and so all elements were art directed to support that purpose.

- Stock photos were used for reference and texture. Some were shot by myself. Finishing the whole artwork took around 30 hours. I started working around 3 weeks ago.

- I did not paint cast shadows because this does not work very well with art nouveau style.

- I have added flowerpowerstock to the keywords since I got my best references for the cherries from there. I also love how she arranged the cherries on the trey in front of this wonderful wallpaper. It shows real sense for art direction so her account is really worth a visit!

PS: I encourage advanced critique. No spam, no flame. I am always open for a talk, but if you don't like my art, go visit another gallery. Thank you.
Here we have a strict kind of emotion, that I currently use as self portrait at several places because it also resembles what I am.

If Melanie Delon knew about this... she painted me once. And it was absolutely beautiful. I was highly impressed by how she sees "the blue woman"... since I could never paint something that sensitive. So she was actually able to see another part of me people hardly see...
I was flipping pages of a Victoria Frances artbook and suddenly started to wonder if I could paint a crying lady with some gothic style elements, too.
So I chose some sad music and started working. In her art they are generally crying most of the time. But I wanted no blood. So I aimed for a sad person who was human once, generally my white girl that you may I have painted since my early works, but this time as ghost, and saw how it could develope.
I also spent a lot of time on the detail of her dress. Part of it was created with a texture that I had shot with my photocamera, and the other half is just insanely time consuming painterwork.

Note: the here published version does not officially count as Alice Cullen artwork because I want to retain my rights to my art, this is why this changed version was published here!
---

Alice Cullen?

Since Twilight the movie celebrated premiere in LA on November 17, I thought it was about time to post this here! :3

A DIFFERENT version of this was painted for Stephenie Meyer.
It shows Alice Cullen (also with her BLACK EYES instead of bright pale gold, as they are here), but I did not go for the one that you saw in the movie.
I wanted to depict my own vision of her as I had imagined her by reading the books, and that's what came out of it.
I tried to stick to the colors that were descriped with her and with an elegenat style, because it was said that Alice seems to be into fashion, since she would dress Bella all day if she had a chance to.

PS: My favorite book of Stephenie is "The Host"
PPS: I would suggest everyone to get the english books no matter where you live. They are just so much better than the translated stuff!
PPPS: Please don't tell me anything about the FOURTH BOOK from the series here. I had no chance to read it yet.

Thank you!!

Apples Kiss

"...Shall I?" - what if the apple is all she has left? Would she keep it or destroy it? There is a fresh grave waiting for her. She will die anyways...

It was done for Painter Magazine issue 23 that will be released on November 6. And since I make sure to have good relationships to my customer I was once again allowed to show it on my online galleries and that before release.
Issue 23 was a massive issue for me. I did not just have this major tutorial that this image was made for on making patterns with Painter, I also had some pages of the pro corner to take care of.
There I explained how to paint rain, deal with backgrounds and make custom brushes. I really hope that you will like this issue. ^_^

Stay also tuned for issue 24 and 25 since I have currently accepted to work monthly for them again. There will also be a surprise with issue 24, I guess, but I am not allowed to say anthing yet.
Stay tuned. ^_^

This image is also featured in a tutorial for Artsquared's recent book with friendly permission from Imagine Publishing.

Painter Magazine

EDIT: I disabled comments for this because I really don't like how some people "behave" when I paint a fairytale image.

Last but not least, yes I have as always worked with references, I will say that everytime again, I am not that genius, and yes I am "lame" for doing so. Blahblah. And one more yes, there is a detailed part in my Painter tutorial showing how to use references and stockphotos. I don't feel ashamed of it and the beginners will be thankful for that.
Have a nice day.

This painting is also featured in Painter Magazine's issue 23 in the pro corner.
It was not easy to make because I didn't know more than that it is a female demon, featuring red color and a certain kind of dagger.
The painting was also done in kinda hurry because I didn't have that much time. I stuck closely to some photographic reference that I was given, regarding the dagger and such.

And on top of that I did not publish it earlier because the novel for which it was created has not been published back then. But now it's out, but I don't know what it looks like printed, because I haven't seen it yet. Way to go, sometimes it takes a while until you finally get to see how your work looks printed. I have done some comic jobs and I haven't seen them yet, too, because it was oversea and I am somehow too far away to just walk over there and... blah XD

Knowing that my technique is not perfect, there are certain things I just can't do. I wouldn't be able to paint perfect hands even if my life relied on it, but I also know that this is not aiming to be one of those perfect rendered elves in a forest paintings anways.

It is one of my few paintings which actually delivers a message regarding what is going on right now with China, and I hope that you guys know more about China than just that they use to take popular artists' work to spread them on their sites without asking, because their population seems not to be allowed to browse websites like DeviantART, for instance.

This should make us think.
Try to wonder why this woman so proudly inherits the world, while she also carries the olympian flame in a lantern that would not allow it to be touched by any wind... PS: I know that this one has big er "boobs" that the other one has not. My bad... but I liked it too much to change it and on top of that "Mel approves"... XD

PPS: I did many new works recently but so far I will just share a few here. This partly is becaused much of the stuff was commissioned.

PPPS: I am always working with references to archieve this kind of detail like I am always using references for all of my paintings and I am not ashamed of it. On top of that I do not like people who pretend to be able to paint all that just from their head.
I also used a very nice pinup painting as reference for her dress. Which had to be white, ugh. Will you find it?

Well guys, I can only say that it helps much to learn more than one painting style even if this require copying from time to time. This nice "paint like" (Vermeer) workshop for The Official Painter Magazine is such example.
However, this workshop should help people to learn from the old masters, their history and their working methods to improve their own future paintings!
Therefore the attached disk includes a high res charcoal sketch (lines only) which was directly nailed on top of the painting sothat you will only have to worry about your painting studies!
I really hope that you guys can learn something from this workshop and it would be cool if you show me your results after you have purchased the current issue and grabbed the sketch for practice. This issue #14 is available at your local magazine store or online at http://www.paintermagazine.co.uk

I would like to write some stupid story to this like "He lives under the sea, all alone, and since he has no arms all he touches just bursts like the little bubblefish which he eats..."

However, I had actually started to make this painting for the strange behaviour challenge.
(My challenge thread: http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthr...?f=225&t=539219 )
But I was flooded with commissions and so wasn't able to finish it in time and it also turned out in something very personal - and much different - from what I have done before.
I haven't done such a "big" project for a while now and have also put an insane (maybe too much) amount of work into it... well I really hope you can like it somehow and also may find some time to look at ot for a bit longer than usual to observe everything that's going on there.

Reunion

I was asked to do a big fantasy painting for Painter Magazine issue 25. I did not often illustrate couples, eg. paintings that feature more than one person in the past so this was quite a challenge. And therefore this tutorial is for advanced users. You will see that once you want to illustrate more than one person the whole thing becomes quite challenging. That explains why many artists only illustrate one figure.

The workshop is about storytelling, e.g. iconography so I decided to focus on the relationship of the figures and which questions this creates. I also had to include two key elements which are a key and a map. To that I added colors, roses, roots and a castle.

Because all of my Painter Mag workshops include parts that show how to work with stock photos, I went into the forest some time in November, as the project was assigned and took several photos of trees and leaves. Such photos were used to create a base for the leaves and bushes that you can see here. Red blobs, such as for the roses were then painted on top. The stock photos that I created for that painting can be found on the disk of the magazine from where you can take them and use them to experiment on your own paintings.
I also featured two outsourced stock photos for texture. The key I sadly can't find anymore so if someone knows who took it please let me know!
The map is from night-fate-stock [link] who was properly credited in the magazine, too.

I also suggested people galleries of now-a-day artists who like to paint couples/ several figures in one painting. So I recommended Jean Tay as an example. On top of that I had a look at Marta's work once again since she is pretty good with dramatic scenes and amazing dresses. But this was just to keep my quality high and nothing in particular.

This painting also includes a little joke since the guy might remind some of you pretty much of Devil Jin. For others he might just be some sort of demonic knight? Or so... The orange dress was designed for Melanie Delon. Since she also did a painting of me, so I owed her this since too long already...

Blahblahblah - As you can see I have done my best to credit and mention everything properly for this very time consuming work. If you find that I have forgot something this wasn't on purpose. Please be so nice to let me know. Thank you.
Many people have problems doing that and so I have created a massive workshop on Painter Magazine issue 24, showing you how to do that - building it up that means. It's really like Lego in some way.

I also have done a short tutorial part about using stock photos on doing so to help beginners finding a base, too. So this issue might be something for you nomatter if you are a beginner or an advanced painter. My friend Marta Dahlig also has provided a cool figure workshop for this one, so I am definatly looking forward to is release on erly Decembert!

Once again: Happy Valentine's Day!

Here is the description from the Making Of: PUH is a chibi Version of Corky's and mine character Evan and was originally created by me.
As my hun visited me last week, we made up the concept for the Valentine's card where he drew the outlines for.

Since I always wanted to do something with clouds, e.g. a beautiful sky, I decided to choose clouds as background and painted as good as I could, using my custom brushes and some noise to make it look as realistic as I could.

I tried to make the balloon look good, either, which wasn't that easy, because I had no reference for that, too and needed to get an understanding how its surface could work.

As I came to color PUH then, I was confronted with the problem to combine chibi style as good as possible to the realistic one in which I had already painted the background!
So I tried my best to make it all look matching together, and to not lose the chibi style.
He agreed and that's what I created. Though this ainting is a bit older one, it's still one of my favs

Guess what I worked on for the last two days?
Yes! That drawings you may already know from my blog. Now colored and such, nices design applied to it, yadda, yadda.

Have been working with lotsa textures on this one because I want a very certain look to be archieved. Therefore I have visited the "real Silent Hill" which basically is a large abandoned hospital complex near Berlin. The whole place is rotten and gives just the perfect feeling. We came home with around 700 photos for reference and am going to take some more there soon.

However, this is one of the reference sheets for the artists working with me on the Silent Hill Project.
What? You aren't participating to the Silent Hill Project yet?
Impossible! Drop me a note now!

PS: If anyone of those fancy art thiefes dares to put this in his gallery I'm gonna send this guy after him to chop his head off! ARR!
